A YEAR IN PHOTO's PART II

CHRISTMAS MADNESS -
You would think that with my last few weeks of student teaching, my last two solo weeks (of teaching) and also all the preparations for Christmas I wouldn't have taken any pictures or done anything but a las I did. Horay for me! We did the Cornish Christmas up in Grass Valley, had my dad, sister and brother for the holidays and also watched the girls do an amazing performance during the Christmas dance program. Busy Christmas!

HAPPY NEW YEAR - FIRST SNOW TRIP

Our annual trip to the snow! Emma was a huge shocker for us! She acutally likes the snow! This is very unusual in our family....at this age the other two girlies wanted me to lug them around and didn't want anything to do with touching the snow. Emma however was trying to throw snow balls at people and go down on the sled on her own. She was hilarious! Kinda her personality though. She really thinks she is much older than she is. Our little snow bunny!

GOLD MINE DAYS-
Coloma has an annual gold rush days where they have living history demonstrations. The girls loved LOVED seing everyone dressed up "funny". Kylee and Sarah got to pan for gold and make ropes as well as play with old toys and talk to little "pioneer" girls. I told them we had gone back in time...hee hee....it was such a fun time and I think its going to become an annual thing for us. Plus it was all FREE...can't beat free!

TRAIN MUSEUM-
What do you do on a cold winter day in Sacramento? Head down to the train museum with some friends. It was the busiest I have EVER seen the train museum but still fun. Girls loved climbing in all the full size trains and engines.

SARAH SCARE!!

During this first month of January we also had a little bit of a scare with Miss Sarah. One day when Susanne was over at my house Sarah was complaining that her toe hurt. And like a good Aunt that she is she took a look at it (since somehow I must have brushed it aside...nice huh!). Anyways...this is what she saw:

Sarah has a bad habit of...biting her toenails....anyways she bit too far and it got infected. She had to go to the doctor and get two very large shots of some antibiotic in her leg and an oral dose of antibiotics. The doctor told me later he almost admitted her to the hospital because it looked so bad. But luckily the shots and meds worked and hopefully Sarah has learned her lesson!

OREO VISITS -

Kylee's class pet Oreo came to our house for a visit. It was a very old guinea pig. Luckily we made it throug the weekend!

RANDOME CUTENESS -

Not really anything specific just having fun twirling with the blossoms in poofy skirts....thats all.

DAY TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO -

Thou we live pretty close to the bay area we hardly ever go down there....just not a priority and its hard to take strollers into the city. But since we had some time during "President's week" (where our school district took the week off) we had some time. The girls LOVED it! I was suprised how much they loved it actually. We went to the Exploritorium museum (which was awesome!) and then headed into downtown to do the Pier 39 and Ghiradeli square. Then we took a charter boat out around Alcatraz...it was such a fun time we didn't want to go home!

Patriotic Performance -

Kylee had the cutest performance at school where they learned patriotic songs and memorized facts about the US. It made me so proud to be an American and so glad that we live in a place that celebrates that to its fullest!

SNOW DAY #2-

Another fun day in the snow but this time with some good friends. We had a blast....and Emma really is a little snow bunny!!

EASTER ACTIVITIES-

Our community put on an Easter egg hunt, luncheon and face painter. The kids had so much fun doing the Egg Hunt (or race...it was mass choas!). Greg stayed home with Emma for this one which was nice cause it usually is me thats at home. Loved the face painting!

PRESCHOOL EASTER HUNT

YUP...more Easter...annual Easter Egg hunt through preschool. Easter bunny terrified all my kids (well, Kylee finally sat on his lap because she wanted the treat). At this point we have more candy than we know what to do with.

EASTER -

Last Easter....I promise!! Woke up to our lawn being covered in the front with Easter eggs. I thought the kids were joking when they came in and said the Easter bunny had come and decorated our lawn. I can honestly say that it was like a Christmas morning with snow kinda feeling. It was awesome that someone...ah I mean the Easter bunny did that for us!;)!

KIM & ROB's WEDDING

Well, we got to go out to Utah for my baby sister's wedding. It was really nice to see everyone and get to see such a beuatiful ceremony. Here are a few pics that we snapped but if you want to see more you got to go to the photographers site (my other sis) they are some beautiful photots: www.susanneashby.com

Kylee Turn's 6!!!

Kylee wanted a Magic themed party this year. She is very much into Harry Potter (randomely) and wanted a wizard party. So, greg broke out his wand and performed for about 15 6 year olds. It was awesome! The kids were laughing and really into it. We made wands and adorned them with capes and had a blast. I love kids parties!

MOTHER'S DAY PERFORMANCE

For Mother's day Sarah's preschool did a cute little rendition of BROWN BEAR...each student was a different character and they had to come out and say who they "saw". Sarah was a chick...it was too adorable! And we each got a home made book of the poem by each of our kids! So sweet! I loved it!

SARAH'S "GRADUATION" from Pre pre-school...

I know this seems kinda silly maybe but they had a little ceremony to commemorate the end of the school year for Sarah. Next year she will be in pre-k preschool and will be going three times a week so it is a moving on for her. It was so CUTE to hear what they said about her because I really feel like she came into her own this year. Up until this point she was kinda shadowed by her big sis Kylee who has a very BIG personality. Don't get me wrong we love Kylee to pieces and Sarah too but it was really hard to tell before this year what kind of personality Sarah was going to have other than being the sweet little sister of Kylee. And WOW, what a personality she has. Pretty much all the boys in her preschool want to marry her and all the kiddos fight over playing with her. Its funny to see that she is little miss "popular" at such a very young age. If you didn't know she just tried out for a cheerleading squad this spring as well and now I understand where her drive to do that is coming from. As said by her preschool teacher - Sarah was born to be a cheerleader. Too funny!

RODEO

Went to our first Rodeo as a family. Both Greg and I had been to some when we were younger but the kids have never been to them. We went with a group of friends and cheered on the cowboys! We had such a fun time!!

KYLEE GRADUATES FROM KINDER

I can't believe that i'm old enough to have a Kindergartener at all and then she goes and graduates on me! It was so adorable to see her up there with her classmates. They sang a lot of cute songs for us and gave us some really sweet memorabilia including a scrapbook and tile with their handprint. I cried! I thought I was bad at the beginning of the year with the tearing but this was full on stream of tears going on! I was not prepared for that either! I was so happy that she had a wonderful year and really greatful that this little firecracker is my daughter! She really takes life 'by the horns' so to speak and dives into everything she does. Its amazing for me to see her growing up and becomming such a wonderful little lady! It makes me tear now just typing this! So here's to Kylee this year!

CAR FESTIVAL

Lincoln has the coolest old car festival and Greg being a lover of old cars had to go and check it out. So we made a Saturday morning of it and took some friends with us too. It was fun but a las no '57 Chevy pickup for Greg to drool over....we got pretty close though.

DANCE RECITAL - SUMMER

The girls did a great job on their dance recital this year. We have officially ended out dancing days for now since Sarah is moving on to Cheer and Kylee is pursuing more soccer stuff but it was adorable to see them up on stage one last time. And who knows it might be a short lived break from dance. Sarah did "Route 66" from cars...a tap number. And Kylee did "Tommorrow" from the movie Annie. They both did a great job and we were so proud of them!

VISIT FROM FAMILY

Instead of going on vacation this year we had a lot of family come to see us, which was a nice break from our typical routine. Plus, Greg had a ton of business trips to go on this summer so it left little time to actually go anywhere. Don't worry the girls and I bussied ourselves by doing little trips to the library, movie theatre and of course the pool (the pool too much actually). Anyways, here are some pictures of when Greg's parents and brother Thomas were in town. My sister Kim and her hubby came too as well as my Dad and brother Tyler but I think those will come later when I did pool pictures.

My B-DAY/WICKED

For my 30th (yes I can't believe its true either!) Greg totally suprised me! This was in payback for the suprise b-day party I threw for him last minute at our house with our friends. Thanks friends! He said we were going to go to a movie and out to eat for our birthdays (Greg's is only 10 days before mine). Anyways, he tells me to dress up since we never do and I didn't even think anything funny was going on! In hindsight though Greg, you should probably put a heavy jacket in the car if we are going to SF! Just a thought. Anyways, when we started to head toward Davis I knew that this wasn't going to be a typical evening. I didn't think we would be going out to eat in SF and then catching WICKED though! It was awesome! VERY VERY cold but AWESOME! My sweet Mother in law watched the kids for us...we didn't get home til almost 2 in the morning! It was such a fun b-day. I think I should turn 30 every year....:)

COUNTY FAIR/4th Celebration

We got to go the County Fair...it was free one night and we thought that it would be fun. And it was! We went with some friends and had such a good time. After that we went and caught a Forth of July celebration that was put on by a church in our town. It was such an amazing and spiritual event. You could really feel the Pride of everthing America stands for and how we are so blessed! I love where we live!!

Ok...I know i'm not completely caught up but since I am almost to the 4th of July I figure i've done a pretty good post! Right?! So the next post will say...Summer! I can't believe i've made it this far....
Talk to you soon!

Long Intermission

A year in photos is taking longer than I anticipated. It takes forever to make each of those collages and to be quite honest its kinda discouraging that I am not even to Christmas of last year yet....it reminds me of my scrapbook days (always behind). Summer is rolling along quickly and I just had to post one picture of our summer fun. It just makes me happy! Happy Summer everyone!!

Magical!

A year in Pictures!

As promised I am delivering almost a full year in pictures. I am not sure how long this post will be and it might come in a few installments so patience to all of you that want to see what we've been up to....I promise that this will take awhile! (All of the pictures are in collages...so please click on the collage that you want to see and it will blow up).

Well, I might as well start with end of last summer and early last fall....I think thats where I left off. You know, when I started student teaching and didn't even have time to sleep....

TRIP TO SO CAL/GRANDMA ROSES B-DAY (That makes her 103!!)...end of July.

We had lots of fun visiting with family. My kiddos enjoyed some Grandma hugs from both Grandma Rose, Aunt Virginia and of course Greg's Mom. We visited the Ventura Mission. We also got to see some old family photos of Grandma Rose's family....The Mom was "Emma" and also the tall blond girl in the old picute was Emma too. We didn't know we were naming Emma after family....it just happened. Fun to see old photos like that though.
END OF SUMMER FUN
Kylee and Sarah went Ice-skating for the first time at a b-day party. They had so much fun that i'm still hearing about it....

Also, our neighborhood and community is so awesome...sometimes the firetrucks come to say hello. This was for our neighborhood watch night. They got to climb in and explore the fire trucks. The kids had a blast even though it was WAY after there bedtime!

LAST SUMMER DAY TRIP - AUBURN

Love that place...lots of old buildings to look at and little shops to explore. Great for a day trip!

KYLEE STARTS SOCCER!!

She had fun and really got in there! Can't wait for this fall!

Kylee starts KINDERGARTEN!!! Wahoo! I did cry a little bit (tear, really). How could I full on cry when she was so darn excited and so outgoing! So happy for her though.
SARAH STARTS PRESCHOOL!!! Sarah was equally happy about starting preschool. I wasn't there to see her off since I had already started my student teaching stuff but Greg was there....I don't think he cried though.

FIRST LOST TOOTH
Pulled out by Dad right before bed....she couldn't take it anymore! She wanted the $$. Plus we bribed her saying that the tooth fairy brings more $$ for the first tooth! Inflation has gone up...she got $5!!

FALL TIME TRADITIONS - APPLE HILL

LOVE!! LOVE APPLE HILL! So much to do up there. We especially like the train ride, riding horses and eating yummy food! We went with our friends the Ogden family as well as Nate and Susanne and their family. Good times!!

HALLOWEEN

We had Giselle (from the movie - Enchanted), Tinker Belle and SnowWhite. They were so cute this year!

HALLOWEEN Parties - Home and School

Ever since last spring Sarah has wanted a "Ghost" party. She wanted one for her b-day and I told her no. Her b-day is in June and I just didn't think I could pull off one then but I promised her (no matter how busy I was) that we would do a Halloween "ghost" party. It was low key. The kids ate cupcakes, decorated t-shirts with their footprints being the ghosts and then watched a movie - monsters vs. aliens. It was fun and I think it has sprung up a new tradition!

Also, I snuck out of my classroom for an hour or so to go to Kylee's halloween party at school. I got to work the mummy hand making table where the kids stuffed popcorn into a rubber glove. It was fun and worth it!!
Kylee also had a fun Pumpkins Patch Field Trip and we went to the pumpkin patch as a family but for some reason the pictures won't load up on here.

THANKSGIVING
Wish I had more pictures during this time but they are MIA...I know I took them, but I don't know what happened to them. This should stand as both a lesson and testiment to our crazy fall....I need to blog more often so things don't disappear (lesson) and you can tell my life was absolutely insane during this time (testiment by missing photos)....I could barely keep track of my brain let alone some digital files.
Anyways, I got to visit Kylee's class during the "Feast". It was adorable. Kylee was an Indian as you see from the picture below. After the feast they recited cute poems and sang some songs. (Oh yeah, i'm missing that video too!)
For the actual day of Thanksgiving we went to my sisters house where all of Nate's family was celebrating...tagged onto the fun. It was a crazy week as I was trying to do my first TPA (see last post) so I don't remember all the much! But here's proof that we lived through last fall.

TO BE CONTINUED.....

Finally!

I know, I know....I am a very bad blogger!
The only reason why I'm on here now is because my Grandma told me on Sunday that she missed seeing my kids on my blog. Sorry Grandma! In my defense though I have been busy....I thought once I was finished Student Teaching my life would slow down but no. All the things that other people picked up for me that started this year (having a kindergartner, having a preschooler, entertaining a crazy toddler) all came down to me. Its been a good adjustment but I find that I have less time then I thought I would. And I was still doing school work even though I wasn't in the classroom anymore.
With that being said, I'm going to try really hard to be better about getting on here and updating. So since I'm on here I'll give you a brief overview of what the Hopkins house has been like the last well....too long.

UPDATE:
SCHOOL -

I am now finished with all my classes, and have passed all the tests that they require in CA to get a Multiple Subject Teaching credential. I only have some write ups to do for what they call TPA (Teaching Performance Assessments). They are quite long (30 - 50 pages) and require a lot of detail....I'm almost done with #3 of 4. I'm hoping to finish and file sometime in June. Wish me luck!

KIDS:

Kylee -
Is finishing up her first year of school as a Kindergartner. She has loved every minute of it and has gone from not reading anything but labels on Cereal boxes to reading 10-12 page books. Its amazing to see the progression! She is very excited for summer though!! She can't wait to swim every day and be playing outside all day with her friends.
She loved soccer last fall and was actually pretty good. She really got in there with the boys and would steal the ball. Her favorite was being goalie though?!! She is looking forward to starting another round next fall (this time with the just girls league). Yeah!
Her newest hobby is listening to her MP3 player that she got for her b-day and singing at the top of her lungs.
She also lost three teeth this year! Two were natural (the bottom front) and one was an accident when she fell into our dinning room table and knocked it out (top front). She will be toothless for awhile but she is so proud of the fact that she is loosing teeth.
Kylee also got a "big girl" bike for her b-day. It has a kick stand! Need I say more?
The only other thing in our life right now is ballet....both Kylee and Sarah are working hard for their June performance coming up. Their December performance made me cry...I was so proud of them!

SARAH -
Has been in preschool this year, two days a week. She has learned some of her letters, and can write her name now!
The biggest surprise about Sarah this year is that she is OUTGOING! This is a huge shock since she has always been the one to sit on my lap and suck her thumb. Her teacher Ms. Danai put it best this way,
"You know when Sarah is in the room!"
She has also been a little popular as well....it seems as if all the boys fight over playing with her at preschool. So funny! Who would have thought?! Sarah is finally growing taller and will most likely be in a 4t by her b-day. Although her and Emma are almost the same size. Emma and Sarah have practically the same size feet. Sarah is just our little girl!
Along those same lines she has been begging me, no that's not strong enough of a word....pleading with me to put her into cheer leading.
Well, I've caved! Sarah is officially on the team for our local peewee football league. Its probably the cutest thing I've ever seen when she does the cheers in her little uniform! She's actually pretty good too!

EMMA -
Oh Emma....what is there not to say about Emma. She is hilarious! She is really sassy, and also loves to pull hair and hit....but she can be really sweet too (:)!). She really thinks that she is older. She jumps on the trampoline with the big kids, still climbs on my table, is as picky of an eater as Kylee and loves to throw huge temper tantrums.
She rivals Kylee is so many ways for the hardest child...she makes a great third child (aka last child).
This year she has gone from toddling to running, babbling to talking. Her favorite thing to say is "I ownknow!" (translated into "I don't know"). She likes the dirt, she also likes necklaces and purses but not dress up dresses! In fact, I can hardly get her into a dress on Sunday because she just would rather be in pants. I think its because she is rough and tumble but maybe its cause she thinks the dresses are Sarah's. Who knows?
This year Emma went into Nursery at church and of course doesn't like it now that she's official. She is VERY Social though. In fact, almost every where I go she is trying to wave at people and sit on other Mom's laps. Its embarrassing, but I'm glad she's not shy!
Its been fun to watch her grow and learn new things!

Greg and Me -
Well, I already mentioned about my school. Other than that I have been a busy stay at home mom. I have gotten a chance to sub occasionally but other than that I've been running carpools, doing endless loads of laundry and trying to keep up with the three little women in my life.
Greg this last year changed positions within his company and now works from home....which has been a really nice change. I think he misses going to work and being around people a little bit but who can complain when you fall out of bed and start working. I've liked the fact that he's at home when I do run carpool...there has been several times when Emma is napping and she gets left here! That's about all that's going on with the two of us.

Anyways, that's our life right now! My next post will be a year in pictures...stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

Just in case you didn't get a card from me.....which is very likely these days.....I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas!!! And I also wish everyone the very best New Year!! 2010, WOW!

Two Words.....

Student Teaching......
There really isn't much else to say. Actually, there is a whole LOT else to say but absolutely no time. **Sigh!**
Someday i'll post again, I promise.
In the meantime you should know that I just finished up with my first phase, meaning i'm halfway through. I was in a sixth grade classroom. Thought I was going to cry when I got that assignment but it turned out pretty good, despite loosing my voice during my solo teaching week (lovely).
Now i'm in first grade....
8 more weeks to go!!
Wish me luck!

Family Picture

I know, I know, shocking. When was our last "real" family picture? This was random too....thanks to Kiwi who snapped this one at Susanne's daughter's baby blessing for us otherwise......

Hopefully we'll have another photo shoot soon since Susanne is moving into town :)! And yes, sometimes we match....this was intentional though since I knew there would be a few pictures. I have to take the opportunities when I get them!

Do you like it in color or black and white? And what do you think about the brown? I'm thinking when Susanne takes our family pictures in a few weeks that Kylee and I will be in the brown dresses and then Emma will be in a light blue dress, Sarah will be in a light blue shirt and light brown skirt and Greg will be in blue or brown polo with khaki shorts? What do you think?
